Recently, I participated in my first Zumba class; A Healthy U Mini hosted by fitness bloggers Kimberly Brown of Manifest Yourself, Losing in The City’s Cassandre Charles and Schnelle “Nellie” Acevedo from Brooklyn Active Mama. These women are also the co-founders and hosts of the A Healthy U Conference which is held every year and focuses on health, fitness, beauty, and empowerment.
The class played different genres of music including salsa, hip hop and soca. If you know me, Kes and The Band’s “Wotless” and ANY Machel Montano song gets me hyped. Like I said, I’ve never taken Zumba before, but I was able to keep up. I’m a little rusty after not dancing for a few years, but I’m working on it. I discovered I have two left feet when it comes to dancing to any kind of Latin music. Lol
After the workout, we were able to cool down and get some energy with water and protein bars, as well as get to know other class members and the event coordinators. We later sat down, each participant discussing our goals for the year relating to fitness and health. Everyone was given a 2015 Goal Setting pyramid to list our individual long-terms goals and break them down by day, week and month.
It was a great class. I sweat like crazy and my legs were sore until the next Wednesday, but I loved every bit of it! I only wish I told more people. Nellie, Kim and Cassandre were very encouraging and I can’t wait for the Healthy U Conference in May.
