A Year of WOW

New Year’s Day was approximately 138 days ago. Do you remember the enthusiasm in which you planned and prepared for an exciting 2017? Whether you did (or did not) set resolutions for the New Year, it’s never too late to create your year of WOW

I did a goals check-in last week and you know what? I’m 2 for 3 for accomplishing my 2017 goals, which makes me want to use the muscle emoji a lot. ??  It feels good to finish what I set out to do. More than that, it's encouraged me to keep moving forward and make this the best year of my life.

I ran across this list by Todd Durkin of 117 things you can do TODAY to create a year of WOW. I particularly like tips #98 and #99 because they go hand-in-hand.

  • #98: What can you eliminate from your schedule or stop doing that is currently robbing you of your time and energy?
  • #99: Do more of what you love to do and what makes your soul sing. And what are the 5 things that MOST make your soul sing?

When I think of all of the things I can eliminate from my schedule (excessive Instagram scrolling, online "window shopping", procrastinating, etc.), I find myself with a lot more time to do the things I love. Reading, writing, working out and spending time with friends and family fuel my soul. These activities and people energize and motivate me. When I come home from an early-morning spin class with my #gymcrew, I tackle the day with so much more enthusiasm than if I had stayed home to get a jump start on work or scroll through social media.

What's kind of funny is that the things that I'm passionate about are also related to my 2017 goals. Spending time with family and friends meant I spent a lot of weekends on skis this winter. Become a better skier - check. Working out more and making time to study exercise led me to my new status as a certified group fitness instructor. Pass my ACE certification test - check.

What are you doing to accomplish your goals this year? Most importantly, are you doing the things that make your soul sing? If not, start eliminating the unnecessary tasks, habits, and attitudes that drain you.

You've got 227 days to make this your year of WOW.
