An athleisure capsule wardrobe

I’ve been borderline obsessed with capsule wardrobes for a while. I want my wardrobe to be a capsule so, so badly. I mean, just look at this beautiful closet:

That said, and even though I LOVE to purge, I’m just not there yet.

My closet is more of a convenience store than an art gallery right now, and that’s okay, we’ve all got to start somewhere. So I’ve decided to take on a mini experiment and create a capsule wardrobe for ten days to see how it goes.

I’m basing this capsule around athleisure picks, because, um, that’s my favorite thing to wear, and most of the time, my life is pretty casual. I work from coffee shops, I take my daughter to the playground and become a human napkin, and occasionally there’s a date night with my husband or a ladies’ night out, and I need to look reasonably polished but not super gussied up.

My goals for these ten days are to:

  • Not wear the same thing more than once.
  • Ease the decision fatigue I regularly experience in the mornings when I’m trying to get dressed
  • Be comfortable but look relatively put together

I’ll be wearing only these eight items over the next ten days, and doing my best to keep it interesting with shoes and jewelry. I hope you’ll follow along with my adventures on IG, and I’ll be back here to share the results afterward. 🙂

Here’s what I’ll be wearing:

White sleeveless top by Lorna Jane

Lorna Jane Warm-Up Top

I am obsessed with this Lorna Jane top right now. It’s so light and comfy, and can be dressed up or down. The distressing makes it more interesting than a basic white tank, but it still has good coverage; I feel comfortable with just a bralette under. Though of course you could also add a cami or a longline bra if you wanted.

Patterned blouse by prAna

prAna Harlene Top

This is my ideal blouse: pretty colors, lightweight, and basically wrinkle and sweat proof. Boom.

Patterned tank by Athleta

Athleta Breezy tank

This is basically a neutral, and a total workhorse of a top. I reach for it whenever I just want to feel comfortable.

Neutral pants by prAna

prAna Brenna Pants in Cargo Green

These pants are basically leggings that look like pants. They’re super comfortable, with great stretch, and I can easily wear them to the playground with my daughter or out to dinner with my husband.

Black board shorts by prAna

prAna Millie Board Shorts

These do double duty: they are board shorts that can also pass as real shorts.

Black skirt by… who knows?

Urban Outfitters, circa 2009…

This black skirt is a major workhorse in my wardrobe. It’s taken me from corporate offices (with tights under, naturally) to countless ladies’ nights out, through pregnancy and postpartum, and it’s still going strong, eight (?) years later.

Gray dress by prAna

prAna Berry Dress

I’ve shared before what an incredible dress this is. I wear it at least once a week, so naturally it had to be in my wardrobe.

Jean jacket

Kut from the Kloth denim jacket

My all purpose, wear everywhere, cost-per-wear superstar of a jean jacket. I probably won’t use this much since it’s still steaming hot in Austin, but I’ll add it into some photos for variety.

So… here we go! 🙂

Oh, and in case it wasn’t clear, I’ll be wearing different clothes to actually work out. These are just for day-to-day life.

I received several of these items for free through partnerships with prAna, Lorna Jane, and Athleta, but all opinions are my own. Thank you for supporting the brands who partner with the Sweat Pink community!

Ugh, your wardrobe is too cute. Come purge my closet. I’ve been working on minimizing it but I still have a ways to go! I love that LJ white top on you -it’s so dang cute!

I needed this inspiration so badly. I’m starting to switch the closet up so I can access all the fall/winter/rain layers and I’m more inclined to do so with this idea in mind.

Can’t wait to follow along. Your look is super classic and elegant, and I love it!

This is so cute! I’m going to be following closely. It really ties in to our book discussion, too! I only wish Prana made more clothes for shorter ladies. Specifically, that cute gray dress.

Gah I need this so bad!! I love the idea of an athleisure capsule wardrobe…whenever I see other ones I feel like it’s so impractical for my life (similar to yours…WAHM, working out all the time, etc). I really need to invest in some of the LJ and Prana basics!
