I love love love riding my bike, especially when the weather’s warm. There’s nothing like sailing along on a sunny day, soaking up a double shot of endorphins and vitamin D, and then smugly watching drivers suffer increasing amounts of road rage as they circle and swoop for parking.
I also love wearing skirts and dresses. In fact, it’s a rare day that you’ll find me in pants, so I’ve had to figure out some workarounds for girly biking. My favorite ways to not flash those circling drivers and hapless pedestrians:
- Leggings: throw leggings on under your skirt, and take them off when you get where you’re going. Bonus: they mitigate visible butt sweat, they fit easily in your purse, and they’ll keep you from getting chilly when you go really fast.
- Bootie or bike shorts: I often wear Bikram yoga shorts under a loose-fitting skirt, and just leave them there. Same butt sweat bonus as the leggings; less hassle.
- Binder clip: if your skirt isn’t too delicate, use one of those giant binder clips to clip your skirt together between your legs. It looks a little awkward, sure, but it’s the most packable option I’m aware of.
I hope these ideas help you go two-wheeling in style!
