Happy Hump Day, sweaties!
We’re featuring two awesome poses today for our #poseoftheday challenge! Option 1: Camel, Option 2: Pigeon (Kapotasana). Let’s break these babies down…
Start kneeling with your hips directly over your knees. Feel free to pad your knees with a rolled up mat or towel. Hands start at your low back. Nudge your tailbone down towards your knees to elongate your low back, and start to reach your heart (focal point for your chest) up towards the sky to elongate your upper back. You’ll start to reach your heart towards the wall behind you. Keep your hips over your knees the whole time, and the neck nice and happy. You should be able to swallow. The name of the game is bend through the entire spine, not just one vertebrae in the lumbar spine nor crunching your cervical spine. If the low back is happy, feel free to reach your hands towards your heels. Toes can be tucked under to help you out with a few inches, or toes can be untucked as you continue to deepen.
Piegon Pose (Kapotasana)
This pose looks like you’d need an accordion back to try it, but you don’t! Set up much the same way you did for camel: kneeling with your hips lined up over your knees, tailbone tucks down as your chest extends up and back. Here you can either bring your hands together at your heart or to your heels. You’ll start leaning back with your hips until your quads (enjoy the burn of strength building in those quads!) won’t let you drop back any further.
