Feminine & Fierce: Celebrating Girlpower

It is an incredible time to be a woman! We are lighting things UP!

We are powerful, smart, and compassionate. We can be mothers and wives as well as CEOs, doctors, and electricians. As Grey’s Anatomy queen Shonda Rhimes herself said, it is pointless to write parts for “smart, strong women” because all women are smart and strong. And a little (or a lot) feisty.

After all…

Well-behaved women rarely make history.

How empowering has it been to see the voices of some of our beloved public figures come forward to speak out against inappropriate, unfair, and illegal behaviors in the workplace?! The #MeToo and #TimesUp movements have gone beyond the workplace to every place, and it is beyond empowering and inspiring to see woman after woman come forward to speak up.

Did you see Oprah’s speech at the Golden Globes this year? Watch it again NOW!

We are uniting as women, coming together as a unit, and letting the world know that our voices cannot and will not be quieted. And while we are celebrating women today on International Women’s Day, we know that it goes far beyond just this day: we are coming together to support other women every. Single. Day.

It’s easy to spot the strong women, they are the ones lifting each other up.

It’s easy to spot the strong women, they are the ones lifting each other up. We aren’t going to school for our Mrs. degrees anymore (aka on the husband hunt). We aren’t sitting back waiting for a boss to notice us while watching our male coworkers get one promotion and raise after another. We aren’t debating between career and babies. We aren’t settling for being “the brains behind the operation,” or that strong woman that’s behind the strong man – we ARE the operation. We don’t have to don menswear style to downplay our femininity at work in order to be taken seriously; we can rock stilettos or a pantsuit and still blow minds.

This is the time to shout GIRLPOWER from the rooftops, to embrace it completely and fully. We are taking our destinies into our own hands, and powerful things are happening because of that.

You. Are. BeYOUtiful!

There’s a reason Bruno Mars’s song Just The Way You Are was such a big hit! Because you ARE beautiful, so you SHOULD feel beautiful, and fine, and sexy, and strong.

Loving your body just the way it is, what a revelation! Being grateful for what it can do each and every day. Feeling beautiful in your own skin. While still setting goals and getting those gains!

And limiting comparison to others. The good doctor, aka Dr. Seuss, had it right: There is no one alive who is youer than you. Own that! No one is ever going to be like you, so don’t try to be like anyone else.

We absolutely LOVED Handful and Momentum Jewelry’s #BeYOUtiful message on National Love Your Body Day! It was so incredible to witness a community coming together to celebrate our bodies, with all their differences and strengths.

You are unique. You are powerful. Never forget that!

The way most people give up their power …. is by thinking they don’t have any!!! . . That’s not you … is it! You are the captain of your ship and you are in control of the helm! 💪Dream, believe, achieve and go on …. do YOUR thing! ✨ . . . . . Marmalade skies w a dash of grape juice … wow! 😱Wait … that references sugar, and I’ve cut waaaaaay back on my sugary treats (and am crushing it, I might add💁)! I’ll report on that later! . . . Back to training … hit my crack of freakin’ dawn 5:30AM @solidcore Pilates class (L💜VE IT!!!) then knocked out a 1.5 mi w/u before taking on my first speed sesh at the HS track: (5) x 1 mi w 1/4 mi recovery. It’s been awhile but felt solid! Dug in deep for this one my friends. 🚜 Get out there and power on thru this awesome Wednesday! 💪 YOU GOT THIS!!! . . . . . . . . . . . . . . #instarunners #runshots #sweatpink #wearecrazyrunners @brooksrunning #athleta #monitorthebeat #brooksrunning #runningrepublic #instarun #womensrunningcommunity #marathontraining #igrunners #beatyesterday #strongereveryday

We’ve all heard it before, but it’s important to remember that children are like sponges; they absorb any and all information around them. So while it may not always be easy, setting good examples for living a healthy, empowered, and inspired life will give them confidence in their abilities and their bodies, and teach them to respect the men and women around them, and to celebrate differences.

Happy International Women’s Day from our sweaty, strong, smart and amazing community! And just because we love celebrating all of you strong, amazing women out there, we’re giving away a prize pack with a ton of awesome goodies on Instagram today. Check @FitApproach for details.
