Finding Your Perfect Workout

With so many indoor workouts, outdoor boot camps, and at-home programs, the number of workouts can be overwhelming. Are you searching for a workout you love? Jen, the blogger behind Burpees for Breakfast, recently shared her best recommendations for finding a workout you love on Facebook Live.

As a Certified Personal Trainer and Group Fitness Instructor,  Jen has seen how important it is for her clients to find a workout and space they love. Her #1 tip? Find a program, class, or routine that aligns with your goals and lifestyle.

“If you don’t enjoy your workouts, you’re not going to want to do them” – Jen

 

Jen breaks down workout goals into three categories:

  • Fat loss or weight loss
  • Build muscle mass or muscle strength
  • Maintain

Once you determine your goals, evaluate your current workout. Is it fun? Are you excited to do it? Does it help you reach your goals? Just because something worked for one person does not mean it will work for you. Here is what Jen recommends for finding your perfect workout.

1. Your workout should challenge you.

Are you sweating? Are you building endurance or strength? Ask yourself if your workouts are making you better.

2. You should be sore.

Feeling sore? Delayed onset muscle soreness usually means your muscles are getting stronger.

3. It should make you feel good.

Do you feel like you could take on the world? You should feel strong, confident, and empowered after your workout.

4. You should leave wanting more.

Could you have gone five more minutes? Are you excited to do the workout again? You should leave your workout wanting more.

Now… are you ready for your pre-workout and post-workout snack? Jen loves protein – smoothies, pancakes, and Eggland’s Best Eggs. Eat them hard-boiled or scrambled, add them to your #proteinpancakes, or whip them up in this protein-packed salmon salad.
