For three years in a row, Washington, DC was voted the fittest city in the US, according to American Fitness Index from the American College of Sports Medicine and the Anthem Foundation. While it recently lost its crown of sweaty glory to Minneapolis-St. Paul, that doesn’t stop Washingtonians from pulling out all the stops to try to take that title back — after all, we’re still the second fittest city in America!
Our Sweat Pink DMV chapter is committed to earning our “fit” reputation and spreading our love for working out all over the greater Washington Metropolitan Area. Two weekends ago, Sweat Pink DMV hosted our first event of 2018 at Xtend Barre Arlington, a local barre studio in Arlington, VA. The afternoon included a fun workout, healthy snacks, and, most importantly, new friendships.
Xtend Barre’s dynamic classes “focus on movement of the whole body, delivering cardio, strength, endurance, and flexibility”. For the workout, Xtend Barre instructor Lara made sure we sweat hard and felt the burn. 🔥 We laughed through the sweat — most of us were not expecting to sweat so much in a barre class! Lara was fantastic and incorporated cardio, dumbells, and a little humor to help push us through the hour-long class. Our muscles felt every tiny movement! At Xtend Barre, they don’t squat – they plié, which is great for your thighs, butt, and core. From second position pliés to chair pliés, our booties felt the burn. Three-days later, Sweat Pink DMV member Emily texted me, “I’m STILL sore! :)”
Post-class, we enjoyed sips from Bolthouse Farms and snacks from locally-owned P.S. Snacks and Swapples. We sipped on Bolthouse Farms Plant Protein Milk, sampled every flavor of veggie-fueled Swapples (aka waffles re-invented), and for dessert, enjoyed P.S. Snack’s plant-based cookie dough.
Bolthouse Farms donated full-sized bottles of its newest product, Plant Protein Milk. Everyone was able to go home their protein milk flavor of choice (chocolate, vanilla, original, or unsweetened). Fun fact: not only does Plant Protein Milk contain 10g of pea protein per 8 oz. serving, but it also contains more Vitamin D (4mcg) than dairy milk (2.9 mcg) and almond milk (2.75) — and you know Vitamin D is especially important during our DC winters.
As the chapter leader for Sweat Pink DMV, I have loved watching the group grow! Sweat Pink DMV is a free community for women who love health and fitness. Our diverse group of women includes who triathletes, fitness instructors, moms, runners, post-grad students, and more. It’s incredibly rewarding to come together over our shared love of fitness. If you live in the DC-area, please join us for our next monthly event. The details can be found in our private Facebook group.
Stay sweaty! xx
