It’s Thanksgiving week, and we’re kicking off the holiday season with a little bubbly, lots of healthy treats, and a whole lot of yoga to relax and rejuvenate during this busy time of year. Last Friday, Jamie, Nicci, and Liz made healthy-ish holiday cocktails during our Sip N’ Sweat Facebook LIVE event. Today, we’re toasting to you, our incredible Sweat Pink community, and sharing our favorite healthy cocktail recipes.
The holidays are the perfect excuse to gather with friends and family over food, drinks, and celebration. At Fit Approach, we love to partake in the festivities and indulge a little, but we also know that it’s all about finding balance, which includes your holiday drinks! Thankfully, it’s easy to swap out traditional cocktail ingredients with healthy alternatives. Feel good about mixing a few festive drinks and check out our favorite recipes below!
Jamie’s Pomegranate Mimosas:
- 3 oz | 100% Pomegranate Juice
- 2 oz | 100% Cranberry Juice
- 1 tbsp. | Pomegranate Arils (seeds)
- Dash of Champagne
- Rosemary or slice of lime for garnish
Directions: Chill all ingredients, mix, and enjoy!
We love this drink because not only is delightfully refreshing, but it also has so many healthy immune-boosting, anti-aging properties. Pomegranates have a wealth of phytonutrients and antioxidants, and Cranberries are rich in Vitamin C. Make sure you buy 100% juice with no added ingredients to avoid unnecessary calories and sugar. Rosemary for a garnish is the perfect touch. When consumed in large amounts, rosemary can help boost memory, improve mood, and reduce inflammation, so buy a little extra and add it to your appetizers.
Interested in making this a mocktail? Replace the champagne with sparkling water and sip, sip, enjoy! We think this drink is perfect for Thanksgiving or Christmas brunch.
Nicci’s Vegan Affogato (alcohol optional):
- 2 scoops | Coconut Bliss Mocha Ice Cream
- 1 Shot | Espresso or strong brewed coffee
- 1 Shot | Whiskey (optional)
- Splash | Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water
Directions: Scoop ice cream into mug or wine glass. Pour espresso and whiskey over ice cream. Top with a dash of Gerolsteiner Sparkling Mineral Water for the healthier version of the traditional seltzer.
We admit this recipe is more indulgent than healthy, but we did mention we “strive for balance”, right? We love this creamy treat, which feels more dessert than after-dinner drink!
Liz’s Hot Spiced Apple Cider
- 1 gallon | Organic Apple Juice
- 1 Shot | Bourbon
- 1 tsp. | Allspice
- 2 tsp. | Whole Cloves
- 1 tsp. | Vanilla
- Cinnamon sticks for garnish
Directions: In a large pot over medium heat, add the apple cider. Stir in the allspice, whole cloves, and vanilla and bring to a boil. Let simmer for 10 minutes. Add bourbon and serve in mugs. Garnish with cinnamon sticks.
This recipe makes our house smell like Christmas! Again, avoid excess sugar by buying 100% apple cider or juice.
#HealthUpYourHolidays Protein Shake Mudslide:
- Irish Cream Substitute (recipe here)
- 1 Cup | Ice
- 1 Scoop | Gourmet Chocolate or Sunshine Chocolate Designer Protein
Directions: First, make the Irish cream substitute. Mix all ingredients in a high-powered blender, pour into your most festive wine glass, and enjoy!
