Living in NYC, eating out is a regular thing. There are tons of restaurants around serving everything from different types of water to mock chicken. Having food choices is good, but depending on what you order you could damage your fitness goals.
Here are some ways to eat healthy when dining out:
1. Decide what you want to eat before everyone else does:
Studies have shown that if everyone at the table is ordering higher calorie meals you may follow the crowd and order the same thing.
2. Drink water first:
As I mentioned here water plays a role in satisfying hunger. Drink a full glass before your food arrives.
3.Pick the right appetizer:
Instead of a fried appetizer have a vegetable appetizer or a salad with a light dressing like oil vinegar or balsamic vinaigrette.
4. Go Lean:
Order lean cuts of meat such as chicken breast or fish. You will get protein and not as much fat.
5. Menu Keywords:
Avoid foods that are fried or smothered. Instead get items that are grilled or steamed.
Mind the serving size. Order sample or kids size or order an entrée but request half be packaged to-go before it’s placed on your plate.
