It was hard growing up as the “fat kid”. Always having kids make fun of you. Calling you names. Choosing you last for teams. Making mean sticky notes to put on your back.
In my second year of college I started working out and eating kind of healthy. It was fun to lose weight and feel healthier. It wasn’t until many years later though, when my mom was diagnosed with Diabetes and had open heart surgery and after having my first baby that I had my first “Aha Moment”. Now I had a family of my own. I now had more to live for! I needed to live by example and show my family what an active lifestyle can bring us. It was at all of my strollercise classes that I really fell in love with health and fitness. I love the feeling that it brings! I also love how happy my family is when watching and participating.
It has now been just over 6 years since my first baby-and-me fitness class and I have never looked back. I started getting more into long distance running in the past couple of years and have never been happier! My second “Aha moment” has happened since I started running half marathons, marathons and Ultra marathons. I realized that I want to be around to see my kids and grandkids graduate and have healthy, happy lives. I don’t want to die of heart disease, diabetes or other diseases associated with obesity like a lot of my relatives. I also hope that my kids won’t have to live the childhood that I did.
So here I am, running as fast as can, away from diabetes and heart disease while trying to maintain balance and provide my family with the platform to lead healthy, active lives.
