If you have a weakness for salty foods (ahem, potato chips), it’s nice to have a few, healthier alternatives for when you’d like a savory fix but don’t want to dig into a bag of salt & pepper potato chips.
When you have a salt craving that just won’t quit, try one of these healthy alternatives.
gimME seaweed snacks
These have been a pantry staple for us for years now. They don’t last long in the house, and they’re so lightweight they’re really easy to take on the go.
Plus, seaweed offers the broadest range of minerals of any food on the planet, containing 10-20 times the mineral concentration of land plants, plus it’s high in protein and fiber. It's a vegetable umami bomb that your family will be excited to chow down on.
I know, I know: a handful of almonds is such a common suggestion for a healthy snack on the go that it’s hard to look past the triteness of this suggestion. But. BUT. How cute are these perfectly portioned little tins?
These were part of our swag bags at BlogFest, and kept us munching and crunching happily through sessions and workouts and early mornings and late nights. I keep this little tin in my purse because it’s so darn cute.
Hard boiled eggs
Another common suggestion for to-go snacks, but the key here is to pack your salt along with your protein. Eggs are an ideal vehicle for salt. I keep a salt packet in my purse; Jamie has been known to keep soy sauce packets in hers. A great way to get your protein along with your sodium.
Avocado with soy sauce
Speaking of soy sauce packets: this is a salty snack that will also keep you full. Sprinkle some soy sauce on an avocado and dig in!
